I think the idea of putting art in your pocket is extremely f.a.b. as Lady Penelope used to say. Lately here in Ireland - and I guess in the US and GB too - times have started to get tough financially. We've certainly seen a big drop off in the gallery - people ain't spending.
Maybe that's a better time to get people focused on quality as distinct from brands. Of course there are quality brands but I mean the idea of a brand is obnoxious. We should be rewarding people for inventing and imaginin…

Had a great talk with Nathaniel Stern this weekend about where art and artists can intervene to make us more conscious and perhaps conscientious about how we behave. Nathaniel just staged a performance work in South Africa which involved on one RSA's leading art critics going without electricity for the day, having light supplied by two black guys hand cranking a light. The implications of what he has done are huge. Likewise what Jon has done here really deserve our attention, asking people to in…

Since I got the wallet I have used nothing else to store and carry my money. It's been the subject of quite a few conversations - I notice in cities when I pay for something people ask questions about it so I get a chance to talk about art and about the gallery. But I also get the chance to look like a funky guy again - after all these years. My wallet is purple with leopard spots on a yellow background.
What does it mean to spend money through a piece of art? That's an important question to me…

If you're been a regular visitor the past few days you'll see the messaging change quite often on the home page. It's hard to know where to put the emphasis for the project.
Roos for example thinks we should emphasise our philanthropic message, I want to build up some irony with a hard sell message but in the end it is all about particpation, joining and involvement. If you've time to read
here is the long v…

What we mean by the One World Wallet is an object or symbol that unites people in freeing their minds from the persuasions of branded goods. Brands not only dominate what we spend, they also have power over how we think. Say no to that.
We've grounded this project in art rather than brands. Bring art into your daily life instead of brands. The wallet and art work can mean all kinds of whacky ways to spend money except bowing down to the brand.
As recession bites we are going to have to do this…

As we're gearing up to the launch I thought I'd add a few words about the Wallet Wall - actually I've added a few pictures, moving ones too. The wall is a virtual installation of the first 100 wallets. As more people buy wallets we will add more and more to the wall, always changing the image. Eventually we will create a wallet room but the first 100 wallets constitute the first downloadable art work, an art work created out of the wallets in a virtual space. I'm still eagerly searching for the…

First, thanks for taking the trouble to learn more about OWW. You're very welcome. You can upload photographs and blog posts and you can use the material here to make art or inform your work.
Buying the wallet contributes to the upkeep of this community - for example we pay $20 a month to keep it advertising free.
We think the site is an exciting concept for a network of creatively inclined people. But we're always feeling our way and hoping for ideas to make this better - largely hopin…

Ok, so it is 18.15 on the 17th April and a note from Jon arrived saying the first 100 wallets are ready, he's happy with them and we're good to go, so it's looking around now for the best shipping options and for how to connect this community to Paypal. Good to go!

It's exciting to be building up the One World Wallet but I thought you may want to know some of the detail, which might not be at all exciting. I want to do the One World Wallet under the auspices of a new brand that my gallery is developing, called
This Is Not A Brand.
The idea of it is art is not a brand but it is full of creativity and innovation, the very things that brands are supposed to reflect in the IT industry.
To say something is no…

We're just a couple of weeks away from launching the One World Wallet Initiative. Jon is busy designing and making wallets while I get the site together and we discuss things while we are 3000 miles away from each other.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself and the gallery. We're based in West Cork, Ireland and as a gallery began working with Jon before Christmas 2007. As well as our physical gallery we run a gallery in Second Life called Ten Cubed. Here's a photograph of that:…

What is expected of me at this network?
As with any network you can be as active or passive as you want to be. We'd like you to tell the story of life with your wallet and maybe to upload some photos or videos but it is up to you.
I've joined the network but I can't find out how I download any artwork?
To be able to download art work you have to buy a one world wallet. Once you do that we make you a friend of the network and then you are good to go.
Why can't I access the down…

We want to make this network nice and easy to use, without weighing us all down with complicated legal speak. We've put some of the legal/business stuff at the end of this agreement so please do read it. Here's a few pointers to how we're working it:
1. When you buy a One World Wallet you agree to the

We deliver through An Post, the carrier headquartered in Dublin Ireland. We exclusively use registered post so that you or a friend can sign for the wallet and because it has automatic insurance against loss.
It does mean an extra charge but we believe the wallets are worth it. They are part of a body of art that will grow through your participation so we imagine you too are committed to art and will bear this expense.
An Post can take anything up to a week to deliver, again depending on where…
