I'm going there now.
About Me:
I write about art and culture, specifically about digital culture, and I own an art gallery (www.galleryica.com). I've always felt myself to be quite innovative but usually worked in environments that didn't really encourage innovation - even though I've always worked in jobs that many consider to be "creative." For example I have made TV programmes but found that environment to be ego driven without necessarily being creative in the way I understand it. It's exciting to be involved with art but it can be tough going.

My interests

I recently launched a new label - I see it as a cross between what record labels do and a company. Confusing? I mean why can't we have art labels like record companies have .... record labels? This Is Not A Brand is my art label and this project with Jon is the first product/project of This Is Not a Brand.

Here's the logo.

Here is another the Underbrand logo

You might notice it is more bland than brand. Anyway we're excited about it.

Putting Art in Your Pocket

I think the idea of putting art in your pocket is extremely f.a.b. as Lady Penelope used to say. Lately here in Ireland - and I guess in the US and GB too - times have started to get tough financially. We've certainly seen a big drop off in the gallery - people ain't spending.

Maybe that's a better time to get people focused on quality as distinct from brands. Of course there are quality brands but I mean the idea of a brand is obnoxious. We should be rewarding people for inventing and imaginin… Continue

Where artists intervene

Had a great talk with Nathaniel Stern this weekend about where art and artists can intervene to make us more conscious and perhaps conscientious about how we behave. Nathaniel just staged a performance work in South Africa which involved on one RSA's leading art critics going without electricity for the day, having light supplied by two black guys hand cranking a light. The implications of what he has done are huge. Likewise what Jon has done here really deserve our attention, asking people to in… Continue

My Wallet is Entering its "Return to Jon" phase

Since I got the wallet I have used nothing else to store and carry my money. It's been the subject of quite a few conversations - I notice in cities when I pay for something people ask questions about it so I get a chance to talk about art and about the gallery. But I also get the chance to look like a funky guy again - after all these years. My wallet is purple with leopard spots on a yellow background.

What does it mean to spend money through a piece of art? That's an important question to me… Continue

What's The Project About?

If you're been a regular visitor the past few days you'll see the messaging change quite often on the home page. It's hard to know where to put the emphasis for the project.

Roos for example thinks we should emphasise our philanthropic message, I want to build up some irony with a hard sell message but in the end it is all about particpation, joining and involvement. If you've time to read here is the long vContinue

Hi Hayden - I run a grassroots marketing agency in new york and we activated all of Jamba Juice's store openings here in the (2005). :) We invited influential new yorkers to store openings for free smoothies. Our invitations were stuffed inside Jon's excellent duct tape wallets!

Thank you, Haydn.

I need to review the whole website and project more thoroughly, but it seems to be quite interesting - what little I know so far.
